-How many children pray for their parents?

Regardless of the world’s religion, prayer is of paramount importance. Hindus pray standing or sitting before idols of God. In Islam, worship is performed by reciting namaz, while in Sikhism, prayer is offered before the Guru Granth Sahib, the Guru Darbar, and the Sikh Gurus. In Christianity, prayers are offered either by gathering in church or standing before a picture of Jesus at home. In other religions around the world, followers of their respective communities also pray in their own ways to remember the invisible power they believe in. What do the family members, parents, and guardians actually pray to their respective gods during prayer? Perhaps you’ve never tried to explore this topic.

Yes! Today, we want to address the topic that family leaders—parents or guardians—pray for the fulfillment of their worldly, material needs in their prayers to their respective deities, but a key prayer is for the “development” of their children, for their healthy and obstacle-free lives. I can confidently say that every parent or guardian prays for the “development and progress of their children, and for their healthy lives.”Along with this “prayer,” parents also strive and work for their children’s future and development. The result is that invisible forces work to promote the growth, prosperity, and health of their respective children.

The result is that when the children thrive while their parents are alive, the parents are filled with joy and enthusiasm throughout their lives. They always say that their lives have been successful or, as the saying goes, that they have “taken a dip in the Ganges.”

Now let’s talk about the “worship” or prayers performed by intelligent, married, employed, or business-minded children according to their respective religions. When these children pray to God, their prayers rarely include a request for their parents’ health and well-being in old age. These intelligent and married children, while remaining healthy and happy, do everything for their own happiness in their lifetime, but in the present perspective, the number of intelligent children who become the support of their parents in their old age is decreasing.Very few sensible children would give a portion of their income to their parents. Even fewer would have their parents’ health on their minds when they pray at their holy places or places of worship. When parents’ bodies weaken or are struck by illness in old age, few children will be able to keep them happy and pay special attention to them. Instead, the elderly often wait for death. They become depressed, and then they take their last breath.

We have heard and seen that parents put everything at stake for the illness and education of their child…they sell their property when they do not have money…take loans but we have not heard that similar efforts have been made by children to keep their parents healthy and happy in their old age.

If every child who has become a young man or woman after a certain age considers this, then family unity in Indian culture will continue to strengthen. My position may be somewhat contradictory, but the harsh truth is that the generation from children to young and growing older must consider it, because in a decade or two they too will have to move on to old age.’ – Author Shekhar Kapoor, October 17, 2026
