An inspiring example of responsibility in relationships

After his son died of cancer, a father-in-law fulfilled a father’s duty: he spent two years searching for a suitable groom for his daughter-in-law, then performed her ”kanyadaan” himself.

Dinesh Vairagi, a resident of Jaithal village in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district, has set an example of relationships that everyone is praising. Three years ago, he lost his son, Kapil, to cancer. After his son’s death, the family was devastated, but Dinesh did not let his daughter-in-law Priyanka’s future remain in darkness. He gave her the status of a daughter and decided to help her begin a new chapter in life.

Priyanka married Dinesh Vairagi’s son Kapil in 2018. Soon after the wedding, Kapil was diagnosed with cancer. He underwent treatment for about a year, but passed away in 2023. After her husband’s death, Priyanka faced great uncertainty about her future.

Priyanka’s father, Rambabu, says that during that difficult time, Dinesh Vairagi stood firmly by his daughter’s side. He clearly stated that he would bid farewell to his daughter-in-law as his own daughter and would not let her life come to a standstill. After that, he spent nearly two years searching for a good life partner for Priyanka.

Eventually, a match was arranged with Govind, a resident of Atarikheda in Vidisha district.Madhy Pradesh,India. Dinesh Vairagi personally visited the groom’s family, discussed everything in detail, and finalized the marriage. Govind works in Khandwa and accepted the relationship with complete respect.

Two days ago, Priyanka and Govind were married according to traditional rituals at a resort in Bhopal, in the presence of around 350 guests. Dinesh Vairagi bore the entire cost of the wedding. The most emotional moment came when he performed his daughter-in-law’s “kanyadaan” like a father and bid her farewell as his own daughter.

Priyanka’s father, Rambabu, says he never imagined that a co-father-in-law would treat his daughter-in-law with such dignity and respect, considering her his own daughter before sending her off. Dinesh Vairagi’s gesture shows that relationships are built not only by blood, but also by love, trust, and a sense of belonging.(updated on 10th July2026)
